1. Things to do before start Blogger blog backup

Before starting backup, create a folder in your system with your blog name. Inside that folder create another folder with the current date name.

By this way, you can easily manage your backup files with date named folders.

Another thing to do is, take screenshots of your blog’s different layout pages. These screenshots help to compare blog design and section, whenever you restore a blog using back up.

2. Download a backup of your Blogger theme

Follow below steps to download a backup of your Blogger theme.

  • Open and sign in to Blogger.com.
  • Select your blog from the left sidebar menu.
  • Click “Theme” option from the left sidebar menu.
  • Now, click the orange arrow button beside the “CUSTOMISE” button.
  • From theme options, choose the “Backup” option.
  • Read details in the popup and click the “DOWNLOAD” option.

Note: As per Blogger theme backup message (“Heads up: some gadgets may not be backed up.”) all gadgets may not back up. You can backup it as per step 5.

  • Open and sign in to Blogger.com.
  • Select your blog from the left sidebar menu.
  • Click the “Settings” option from the left sidebar menu.
  • Scroll to the “Manage blog” section and click “Back up content” text.
  • Read details in the popup and click the “DOWNLOAD” option.
  • Save the backup file to your system.

4. Take Blogger blog images backup

Blogger dashboard or admin do not have specific options for images backup. So, for image backup, you can try any of the following practices.

Manage your blog images in your local system. It means, when you upload a new image on your blog, also add one copy of that image in your local backup folder.

Download blogger images from Google Takeout. From Google Takeout, you can download your all Blogger blogs data from the “Blogger” option or download selected blog’s photo album from “Google Photos” option.

5. Backup Blogger theme’s gadgets content

Blogger theme backup does not include some gadgets in the backup file. So, for that case the following practice helps to take gadgets (widget) backup.

Create a txt file in your system backup folder. Go to the Blogger dashboard and open the “Layout” setting page. Now, open each gadget one by one and copy its title and content in txt file. That’s it.

You can use this file when restoring your blog using backup. At that time, you can add missing gadgets and its content from this txt file.
