An invisible character is a real Unicode character that draws nothing on the screen. It is not the same as pressing the space bar. Many apps remove normal spaces from a name or message, but they accept these characters as real text, so the field is not empty and still looks blank.
They come in three kinds:
| Character | Code | Width | Often used for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hangul Filler | U+3164 (ㅤ) | Wide blank | Names, bios and blank messages |
| Braille Pattern Blank | U+2800 (⠀) | Wide blank | Blank messages, and names when the Hangul Filler is refused |
| Halfwidth Hangul Filler | U+FFA0 (ᅠ) | Narrower blank | A smaller gap in a name or bio |
| Zero Width Space | U+200B () | None | Invisible separator, forms that only need some text |
| Zero Width Joiner | U+200D (‍) | None | Short titles such as highlight names |
| No-Break Space | U+00A0 ( ) | Normal space | A visible gap that does not wrap |
No single character works in every app, and apps change their rules often. That is why this page gives you a first choice and backups for each app, and a box to test the result.
Hidden characters also sneak into text you copy from websites, documents and AI tools, and they can break forms, passwords, spreadsheet cells and code. Paste your text into the Test it box. The tool lists every invisible character it finds, with its code and name, and can remove them. Removing joiners can split some emoji and words in certain languages, so check the result.
Invisible text is fine for design and layout. Do not use it to impersonate someone, hide a spammy account, or get around a rule or a verification step. Platforms can remove names or accounts that break their terms.
An invisible character is a Unicode character that shows nothing on the screen, such as the Hangul Filler (U+3164) or the Zero Width Space (U+200B). Apps treat it as real text, so a field that holds it is not empty even though it looks blank.
Tap Copy next to a character on this page, open the field in your app, and paste. The field will look empty, but it contains the character. Use the Test it box to confirm it was copied.
The most used blank character is the Hangul Filler, U+3164 (HTML entity ㅤ). Other common ones are the Braille Pattern Blank U+2800, the Zero Width Space U+200B and the No-Break Space U+00A0.
Copy one invisible character here, paste it into the WhatsApp message box and tap send. If WhatsApp does not send it, copy the Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800) or another character from the list and try again.
The app is trimming or blocking the character you pasted. Try a different invisible character from the list, check that the field allows special characters, and paste it straight into the field.
No. A normal space is often removed from the start and end of a name or message. An invisible character is a separate Unicode character, so apps usually keep it, but some apps filter it too.
Yes, the characters are standard Unicode and can be copied and pasted on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac. Whether an app accepts them depends on the app, not the phone.
Using it in a name, bio or message is usually allowed, but platforms can change their rules. Do not use it to impersonate, spam or get around a rule, and follow each app's terms.
Paste the text into the Test it box on this page. It lists each invisible character with its Unicode code and name, and lets you remove them.
A zero-width space has no width, so it leaves no gap at all. The Hangul Filler is a blank character with the width of a letter, so it looks like an empty space. Apps accept them differently, so one may work where the other fails.
