Permalink settings in WordPress allows you to manage permalink structure and custom structures for category & tag URLs settings.
WordPress permalink settings
To open Permalink Settings in WordPress, click Settings → Permalinks option in WordPress.
Common Settings
- Default − Default URL structure in WordPress.
- Day and name − URL with year, month, day and post name.
- Month and name − URL with year, month and post name.
- Numeric − URL with archives and post id number.
- Post name − URL with post name, good for SEO practice.
- Custom Structure − Specify your custom URL structure using 10 available tags.
This setting allows you to set your site’s permalink structure. In SEO practices, “Post name” option is popular for permalink. You can check examples with each permalink option, which makes it easier to select an option.

- Category base − Custom prefix for your category post listing URL.
- Tag base − Custom prefix to your tags post listing URL.
These are optional settings for custom structures for your category and tag URLs. You can add base words for Category and Tag URLs. Leave these textbox blank to use default base words (category, tag).

To save your Permalink Settings in WordPress, click the “Save Changes” button after making changes for settings.
