Writing settings in WordPress allows you to manage default post category, post format, post via email and notify update services.
WordPress writing settings
To open Writing Settings in WordPress, click Settings → Writing option in WordPress.
Default Post Category
You can set the default category for your post, using this option. By default it is “Uncategorized”. You find all categories options for field value.
Default Post Format
To manage the default post format for new posts, you can use this setting option. This setting is used by themes to apply post format.
Next, to set a different format for any post, you can select the post specific format from the post page setting.
Post via email
These settings are for creating WordPress posts by email. Post via email setting needs Mail Server, Port Login Name and Password.
Field description – To post to WordPress by email, you must set up a secret email account with POP3 access. Any mail received at this address will be posted, so it’s a good idea to keep this address very secret. Here are three random strings you could use: Lr2GuxnS, W9jIt9jt, 94BlOznp.
Mail Server
Set your mail server URI address and Port value. Mail Server, which allows reading your sent emails to WordPress and stores them for retrieval.
Here, you need a POP3 compatible mail server, which has a URI address. For example, mail.example.com.
Login Name
WordPress needs its own email account to create a post. Given email will be used as a login name.
Also, kept this email as a secret to avoid spammers post links activities.
Password
This is the password for WordPress’ own email account to create a post via email.
Default Mail Category
You can manage the default category for all posts, which are published by Post via email service.
Update Services
Manage new post notify site update services list. WordPress automatically notifies the given site update services.

How to save WordPress – Writing Settings?
